A 15-year history of my research program, in 10 minutes
This post presents a video presentation, originally shown to the Topos Board of Directors, about David’s research program over the past 15 years, from 2007 to present.
My work on applied category theory started in 2007, when I read The Moment of Complexity, by Mark C. Taylor. As I detailed in a blog post series on Azimuth, I wanted to help humanity through this crisis by showing how category theory could help us organize what was going to be a more and more complex world.
In this 10-minute video presentation, I’ll give a high-level overview of this project’s history, which started with work on translating information from one database to another, moved on to dynamical systems that interact in real-time but in fixed patterns, then to dynamical systems that interact selectively with each other, and finally a single theory that elegantly subsumes all of that previous work, namely polynomial functors.
